Mali Tuareg rebels declare independence in the north

The Azawad region of the north of Mali has declared its independence.  The National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) made the statement on its website, adding that it would respect other states’ borders.

The Tuareg rebels who declared the now country independence in northern Mali  and several other neighboring zones around northern africa have fought several rebelions for their liberation, claiming that the they have been ignored by the distant Bamako.

Tuareg rebel spokes man Mossa Ag Attaher said:  “We completely accept the role and responsibility that behoves us to secure this territory. We have ended a very important fight, that of liberation… now the biggest task commences”

The National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) is one of the 2 rebel groups to gain ground in the area after Malis Goverment was ousted in a coup.
